Receiving patient prescriptions

A guide on what to do if a doctor or patient sends you a prescription and how to start a new order for a patient.

Canview allows doctors who are using the Canview Prescriber platform to send patient E-prescriptions directly to pharmacies, making it easier for you to access patients scripts and TGA approval documents.

If you would like a prescriber you know to use Canview, let us know here.

When you are sent a patient prescription, you have the option to contact the patient and confirm if they want their script filled, or wait until the patient contacts you.

Note: a patient prescription is not a Patient Order. You should always speak with the patient about their script prior to starting a new Patient Order or dispense. See here for more information about Receiving Patient Orders.

The 'Prescriptions' tab can be used in three ways:

  1. The prescriber sends you a script

  2. The patient sends you a script

  3. A patient has an E-prescription token from Canview

Prescriber or Patient sends you a script

At the end of a consult, both the prescriber and patient have the option you send you a record of the E-prescription. You will receive an email whenever this happens.

To start a patient order from a prescription:

  1. Navigate to the 'Prescriptions' tab to view all scripts that have been sent to you

  2. Search for a patient by name using the search box, or browse through the list of available scripts

  3. Click the checkbox next to the patient product that you want to dispense. If needed, you can select multiple products.

  4. Click to start a patient order. You will have the option to:

    1. 'Start Patient Order and add to cart' - adds the items to your cart so you can order stock in for the patient

    2. 'Start Patient Order' - to be used if you already have stock on hand

  5. The patient will receive a notification that you have started processing their order. If you are waiting on stock from Canview, the patient will also receive updates as it is shipped

  6. When you have received the stock, or if you have it on hand, click the 'Click here when ready for patient pickup' button

  7. The patient will be notified their order is ready to collect

  8. Dispense the product and take payment as per your normal process

Patient presents an E-token

Patients can access E-prescription tokens for any of their scripts. If a patient walks into the pharmacy with a Canview branded E-prescription token, you can access the TGA approval documentation and start a new Patient Order by:

  1. Navigate to the 'Prescriptions' tab to view all scripts that have been sent to you

  2. Search for the E-prescription token code in the search box

  3. Click the checkbox beside the product, and start a patient order as per steps 4-8 above
